DNS Record Comparison
Two names, the same record types, queried live at the same moment. Useful before and after moving a site, a mail service or name servers.
When a site, a mail service or a set of name servers moves, the question is always the same: does the new name answer like the old one? The comparison queries both names for the same record types at the same moment, through our own DNS client, and lines the answers up.
Records are compared by value, without TTLs: the same MX record cached for 300 seconds on one name and 3600 on the other is still the same record. A type that exists on only one name is shown as such.
Typical uses: comparing example.fi with www.example.fi, an old and a new domain before a migration, or a staging host with production.
Frequently asked questions
Why do two CDN-hosted names show different A records?
CDNs answer with addresses close to the resolver that asks, and rotate them. Different A records do not necessarily mean a misconfiguration; check the CNAME first.
Which resolver is used?
The resolvers configured on our server. To see what different public resolvers return for one name, use the DNS propagation check.
Are TXT records compared too?
Yes, including SPF and verification records, which often differ intentionally between names.
